Ndumo Game Reserve is a small reserve located in the far northeast district of KwaZulu-Natal, known as Maputaland. The reserve borders with Mozambique and is close to Tembe Elephant Park. Ndumo is fairly remote, being about a four-hour drive from Durban and about an hour’s drive from the town of Mkuze.

The Main Camp at Ndumo consists of seven two bedded huts which each have a hand basin, with hot and cold water and a fridge.

The kitchen facilities are communal but are fully equipped including all crockery and cutlery and experienced cooks are available to assist with cooking. The reserve is self-catering and guests need to bring their own food and beverages.

The campsite is beautifully set under the trees offering plenty of shade and caters for both caravans and tents.

The communal ablutions are shared with guests making use of the camp’s hutted accommodation and each camp site has its own electric power point and braai stand.

Ndumo has many beautiful pans surrounded by fever trees, acacia, savannah, sand forest, extensive wetlands and reed beds.

The reserve is just over 10 000ha in size and is renowned for its birdlife, with over 430 recorded species – the highest bird count in South Africa.

There is also a wealth of game in the reserve including hippo, crocodile, nyala, bushbuck, impala, grey and red duiker and many other antelope species, black and white rhino, giraffe and buffalo.

Whilst Ndumo is best known for its abundance of bird life, the reserve also offers rewarding game viewing.

Guests can drive through certain areas of the park in their own cars, while open vehicle game drives and guided bush walks can also be arranged with experienced guides within the reserve.
