uMkhuze Game Reserve accommodation
Check-in is at Mantuma Camp reception for all accommodation in the Mkuze Game Reserve. Guest may only check-in from 14h00 and must vacate the accommodation by 10h00 on their last day. Chalet accommodation is brick under thatch and although not air-conditioned, the rooms are surprisingly cool due to the high ceilings. The tents are located in a well wooded area and have extra shade protection above the tents. The Mantuma Camp 2 bed Rest huts have communal bathroom facilities away from the rooms. The 2 bed Chalets and tents have their own private shower and toilet en suite with each having its own kitchenette. The 4 bed Safari tents have two tents, each with own bathroom, separated by a deck with kitchen and dining facilities. Maximum of 5 guests in these. The 4 bed Chalets have two bedrooms, one bathroom (bath with a shower in the bath), a kitchen, lounge / dining room and veranda. The 6 bed Cottages have three bedrooms, a bathroom (with bath toilet and hand-basin), a separate shower and separate toilet. Then there is a kitchen and large lounge / dining room with a big veranda.
There are limited extra beds available – for an additional guest in a unit – this due to regulating the maximum number of guests at Mantuma Camp.
All the units have their own braai (Barbecue) stand – Care should be taken to not leave the braai unattended, as the Hyena have learned that this is an easy source of food, despite the heat of the fire. Monkeys entering the rooms and even ones vehicle, can be a nuisance.
** Please note that although the water is suitable for bathing and cooking,
it is recommended that one does not drink the water and to buy or bring your own supply. **
We are only a booking service to secure accommodation at a number of the Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife park accommodation venues. We are in no way responsible for the condition of the facilities, which due to severe budgetry cuts from our Provincial Government, has resulted in a lack of general maintenance over the years, with many of the accommodation facilities severely jeopardised and in need of urgent repair or closure.
The Park authorities are well aware of this inability to carry out basic necessary maintenance and are endevouring to source the necessary funds which to date have not become available. Far and Wild Safaris has no control over the allocation of units and their condition. Should you choose to visit these venues and subsequently find fault with the accommodation and or service, we are only able to forward your comments to the Park authorities. There is no compensation for this status quo should it not meet your expectation. Please contact ourselves should you require further clarification.
The roads to and in the Mkuze Game Reserve are tar and gravel in various sections. Although suitable for the normal sedan cars, care should be exercised.
Should you arrive after Mantuma Camp reception has closed, the unit allocated to you will be written on a board outside reception against your name. Take up occupation of the room and report to reception in the morning. Most Credit cards are accepted.
The Mkuze Game Reserve has a number of hides at water-holes and the Pans. There is also a guided walk in the fig-tree forest, book on arrival at Mantuma Camp.
Should we be unable to secure accommodation for you in the Mkuze Game reserve there is the nearby Ghost Mountain Inn which is a popular venue for guests wanting the facility of a restaurant. There is a self-catering venue at Lake Jozini, the Nkonkoni Chalets which we recommend, limited by gate closing times here. Easy access as a day visitor to the Mkuze Game Reserve from these venues.
Mantuma Camp has a take-away (closes at 18h00) with a limited menu, the camp has a swimming pool with a gazebo.
In the Mkuze Game Reserve there are another two Bush Lodges, Nhlonhlela and Umkhumbe (Umkumbe only available from 1st November to 28th February). These also sleep a maximum of 8 guests. The Bush Lodges have the services of a caretaker / cook as well as a field ranger that will take guests on guided walks included in the tariff. Mantuma Camp, is where guests staying at the Nhlonhlela and Umkumbe Camps check in.
