Nselweni Bush Camp – Hluhluwe iMfolozi Game Reserve
Experience authentic self-catering safari accommodation in the heart of KwaZulu-Natal’s wilderness.Perched on a terrace overlooking the Black uMfolozi River, Nselweni Bush Camp is a rustic self-catering lodge located in the uMfolozi sector of the renowned Hluhluwe iMfolozi Game Reserve. This eco-friendly bush camp was established as a joint venture with the local community and funded in part by the conservation levy collected at the park gates – making it a stay that directly supports wildlife conservation and surrounding communities.

Mornings at Nselweni begin with the call of fish eagles as you sip coffee on your veranda, gazing across the Black uMfolozi River. By evening, sundowners bring the chance to spot elephant, buffalo, or antelope emerging cautiously to drink at the water’s edge.
Hippos and crocodiles are regular river residents, while baboons roost on the sheer cliffs downstream. After dark, hyenas are often heard calling nearby – a reminder that this is true wilderness living.
No Restaurant On-Site: Guests must bring their own food and drinks. Limited supplies are available at Mpila Camp (30 minutes’ drive).
Water Advisory: Water is safe for bathing/cooking but not for drinking – please bring bottled water.
Firewood Policy: Outside firewood is not permitted due to the Polyphagous Shot Hole Borer pest. Firewood can be purchased at official park curio shops.
Wildlife Caution: Camp is unfenced. Hyenas, monkeys, and baboons may enter the area – do not feed animals. Bring torches for safe movement at night.
Health Precaution: Hluhluwe iMfolozi is a malaria area – ensure you take recommended prophylaxis.
